I'm looking to buy some more mags, are they $3 better than steel C-mags?

From what I've read, YES. PMags have a great reputation for durability & reliability. CProducts Mags have a variable reputation for quality - some good, some bad. I've got a bunch of CProducts mags, but recently bought some PMags just for grins.

AIM is a top notch company. Every time I've ordered from them they have shipped promptly.

If AIM finally has P-Mags in stock, the great magazine rush is finally coming to an end.

P-Mags won't crush like GI aluminum mags, but IMO, it is the anti-tilt followers that make the Magpuls top-notch.

I can't even find the MagPul replacement followers anymore...

The feedlips on my P-mags look extremely weak. If any of you have some look at them. Maybe this is why this new "M" series P-mag came out and the other version discontinued. The dust cover relieves pressure from these thin plastic lips when stored loaded. If that plastic piece ever cracked the mag would be worthless.

Mil-spec mags might be a better way to go. Plenty of places are selling the mari-time stainless mags for 11-12 bucks right now, aluminum mags for 8-9.

In Googling "P-mag feedlips", I found an interesting review done back in early 2008. Somebody started with a regular PMag, verified proper functioning, pounded the mag against a rock until there was a 2" crack along the mag's spine, and one of the feedlips had a crack running nearly its entire length.

It still functioned.

So the guy broke off ~50% of one of the feedlips.

It still worked.

He put a round through the mag.

It still worked.

He put another round through the mag, cutting the magazine spring.

This cut the mag capacity in half, but those rounds still fed & fired through the weapon.

For the review & some VERY NICE photos, see:

The M rev mag came out because Magpull needed to order some more molds to crank up production, so they took the opportunity to make some minor changes:

Waffle pattern is slightly different increasing strength
Mag is slightly thinner, increasing the number of lowers they work in
Added a notch to store the cover on the baseplate
Removed the superfluous opaque "window"

The old molds are still used on the windowed mags.

So why did they feel it necessary to "alleviate pressure from the magazine feed lips" if they didn't feel like they were the weak link?

I'm sorry, don't mean to thread steal. I was just asking. I have the older style P-mags and would really like to know if I should sell them off.

I think that with any polymer mag where the feed lips are not steel reinforced, the mag lips may show creep or spreading under the pressure of loaded rounds. This deformation would be more likely to occur at high temperatures (even with fiber reinforced plastic) & when the mag has a full 30 rounds in it.

I think the mag lip clip (or whatever they call it) is a reasonable approach to solving this problem.

I'm not sure if I've got newer or older style PMags - just got them a few months ago. In any case, I'll keep mine.

Enjoy!
